Actual Marketing Leadership, Not Just Advice
Most consultants give you a strategy document and disappear. Agencies execute tactics without understanding your business. Internal hires might not have the experience to build something from scratch.
Fractional CMO services give you ongoing marketing leadership without the full-time executive cost. Here’s exactly what that means.
Strategic Planning That Connects to Revenue
Complete Marketing Strategy
You get a roadmap that shows which channels to prioritize, how budget gets allocated, what messaging actually differentiates you, and how everything connects to revenue goals.
This isn’t theoretical. It’s based on your specific business model, sales cycle, competitive landscape, and what your data shows is already working or failing.
Positioning and Messaging Framework
Your competitors probably all sound the same. We figure out what actually makes you different and how to communicate that in a way prospects care about.
This includes your core value proposition, audience segmentation, key messages for different buyer stages, and the proof points that back up your claims.
Channel Strategy and Prioritization
Not every marketing channel makes sense for every business. We identify which channels will actually drive results for your specific situation instead of spreading budget thin across everything.
You’ll know exactly why we’re investing in certain channels, what success looks like for each one, and when we’ll kill something that’s not working.
Marketing Metrics That Actually Matter
Forget vanity metrics. We track what impacts revenue. Cost per qualified lead, conversion rates at each stage, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, attribution by channel.
You’ll always know if marketing is paying for itself or if we’re just burning money on activity that doesn’t convert.
Hands-On Execution Management
Vendor and Agency Oversight
Your marketing vendors report to me. I give them direction, review their work, hold them to deadlines, and make sure they’re delivering what they promised.
If your SEO agency is optimizing for the wrong keywords, I catch it. If your paid ads team is wasting budget, I fix it. If your content writer isn’t producing material that converts, I handle it.
Campaign Planning and Optimization
I don’t just set strategy and hope people execute it correctly. I’m actively managing campaigns, reviewing performance data, making optimization decisions, and adjusting tactics based on what the numbers tell us.
When something’s working, we double down. When something’s not, we kill it fast instead of waiting months to admit it’s not delivering.
Marketing Technology Stack Management
CRM setup, marketing automation, analytics tracking, attribution tools, whatever technology your marketing needs to function properly. I make sure it’s configured correctly, integrated properly, and actually being used.
Most companies have tools they’re paying for that nobody uses effectively. We fix that or we cut them and reallocate the budget.
Content and Creative Direction
I’m not writing every blog post or designing every ad. But I’m directing what gets created, reviewing quality, making sure brand voice stays consistent, and ensuring content actually serves a strategic purpose.
No more random content that gets published because someone had an idea. Everything we create has a job to do.
Ongoing Accountability and Communication
Weekly Performance Reviews
Every week I review the data and tell you what’s happening. What’s working, what’s not, what we’re changing, and why.
You don’t have to dig through dashboards or interpret reports yourself. I give you the analysis and recommendations in plain language.
Monthly Strategy Sessions
We meet monthly to discuss overall performance, review pipeline impact, talk through any strategic decisions, and plan the next phase.
These aren’t status update meetings. They’re working sessions where we make real decisions about budget allocation, channel strategy, and business priorities.
Direct Access When You Need It
You’re not submitting tickets or waiting for scheduled meetings when something urgent comes up. You can reach me directly when you need a decision, have a question, or want input on something.
I’m not available 24/7 but you get reasonable response times and direct communication, not layers of account managers.
Quarterly Business Reviews
Every quarter we step back and look at the big picture. Are we hitting revenue targets? Is marketing ROI where it needs to be? Do we need to shift strategy? What’s working that we should scale?
This keeps us honest about results and prevents us from getting so buried in tactics that we lose sight of business outcomes.
Team and Process Development
Internal Team Guidance
If you have internal marketing people, I work with them to improve their effectiveness. I’m not replacing your team. I’m giving them strategic direction and helping them level up.
If you need to hire marketing roles, I help define what you actually need, review candidates, and get new hires up to speed.
Process and Workflow Optimization
Marketing doesn’t work in a vacuum. It touches sales, operations, customer success, product. I identify where processes break down and help fix them.
If your sales team isn’t following up on leads, or your intake process loses prospects, or your onboarding creates churn, marketing can’t fix that alone. We address the real problems instead of just treating symptoms.
Knowledge Transfer
Everything we build, you own. Strategy documents, playbooks, processes, vendor relationships. If our engagement ends, you’re not left scrambling to figure out what was happening.
I’m not trying to create dependency. I’m trying to make your marketing actually work.
What This Costs
Fractional CMO services run $5,000 to $15,000 per month depending on scope and complexity.
That typically includes 20-40 hours of my time monthly, covering strategy development, vendor management, campaign oversight, team collaboration, and ongoing optimization.
Compare that to a full-time CMO at $200K-$300K salary plus benefits, equity, and overhead. You get senior-level marketing leadership at a fraction of the cost.
What This Doesn’t Include
Just so we’re clear, fractional CMO services don’t include:
Actual execution work. I manage the people doing SEO, paid ads, content creation, design, development. I don’t do that work myself. You still need vendors or internal people to execute. I know how to do all the work and I will jump in and roll up my sleeves in an emergency, but the long-term execution is handled by other parties.
Media spend. If we’re running paid advertising, that budget is separate. The retainer covers my time managing campaigns, not the actual ad spend.
Technology costs. If you need marketing automation software, analytics tools, or other platforms, those subscriptions are separate from the retainer.
Unlimited scope. The retainer covers what we agree to at the start. If you want to add major new initiatives or significantly expand scope, we adjust the engagement.
How This Compares to Other Options
vs. Full-Time CMO: You get the same strategic expertise and leadership at 30-50% of the cost. The tradeoff is I’m not dedicated to you full-time. This works great when you need leadership and direction more than you need someone in the office 40+ hours per week.
vs. Marketing Agency: Agencies execute tactics. I provide leadership and strategy while managing whoever’s doing execution. You can keep your existing agency if they’re good and I’ll just manage them better. Or we’ll find better vendors if they’re not.
vs. Marketing Consultant: Most consultants deliver a strategy deck and leave. I stick around to implement, manage, optimize, and adjust based on results. You get ongoing leadership, not a one-time project.
vs. Internal Marketing Manager: A marketing manager is tactical. They need direction from someone more senior. A fractional CMO provides that strategic leadership so your internal team can be more effective.
