Here at Foxtown Marketing, we get questions about SEO all the time. We usually refer those questions to some of our SEO specialist friends, but we know enough to be dangerous. Many of our clients don’t have the time, money or interest in tackling SEO, so they just keep on spending money on ads. Yuck.
Let’s face it. Proper SEO is time consuming and expensive. There are no shortcuts available, which is why SEO is so powerful when you do it right.
But what if you don’t have a big budget? What if you don’t have the time to put in the work?
All is not lost. There are a few simple SEO small business tips and steps you can take to get your website up to the basic standards the search engines expect when they crawl website. Let the ranking begin!
1. Optimize Your Website for Search Engines
Your website should be optimized for the major search engines in order to be found by potential customers. Make sure to include relevant keywords, meta tags, and descriptive text. Much of that can be done with some simple plugins that guide you on best practices.
2. Use Quality Content
Quality content is essential to SEO success. Focus on creating content that is valuable, informative, and engaging to your target audience. Using ChatGPT or some other AI content creator is the kiss of death. The search engines know when you are cheating. You are better off posing NOTHING than posting fake content that was AI generate. Spending a little money on copywriters, video creators and graphic designers goes a long way here.
3. Utilize Social Media
Love them or hate them, social media channels are here to stay. At the very least, you should create company profiles at all the outlets where you plan to spend a little time. We recommend picking a few of them that will get most of your attention and focusing your time and energy on those. You don’t NEED to have an active presence on every social media network.
Social media channels can be powerful tools for SEO. Post relevant content and engage with your followers to build relationships and attract more traffic to your website.
4. Build Quality Links
Quality backlinks are essential to a successful SEO strategy. Seek out high-authority websites that are related to your business and secure backlinks from them. This is time consuming and takes some finesse.
It is also important to note that links from BAD websites, or paid directories or other shady sources are HARMFUL and can knock you down the search rankings (refer to the no shortcuts statement at the beginning of this post).
5. Monitor Your Performance
Use analytics to track your SEO performance and make adjustments as needed. Monitor your website’s ranking for relevant keywords and continuously optimize for better results. We do initial website audits and ongoing monitoring of search engine results for our clients.
6. Invest in Professional Help
If your business is lacking the resources and expertise to handle SEO, consider investing in a professional SEO service. An experienced SEO agency can create and execute a tailored strategy for your business.
At Foxtown Marketing, we don’t specialize in SEO (that could change, though). We know the basics and advise our clients about that. Please feel free to get in touch if you need some SEO advice and we’ll point you in the right direction.
